THE HISTORICAL BULDING REDFORT

The Red Fort (Qila-e-Mubarak) is a historic fort located in Delhi. Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan began construction in 1638, coinciding with the construction of his new capital, Shahjahanabad. Its construction was completed in 1648.

The Red Fort is renowned for its architecture, history, and cultural significance. It served as the primary residence of the Mughal emperors for nearly 200 years (from Shah Jahan to Bahadur Shah Zafar).

It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. Every year, on Independence Day (August 15), the Prime Minister of India hoists the national flag and addresses the nation from here.

This royal fort served not only as the political center of the Mughal emperors but also as a ceremonial seat, ruled by the Mughal dynasty for nearly 200 years. Witnessing the country's War of Independence, the Red Fort is a unique and unparalleled example of Mughal architecture, creativity, and beauty.

Built in 1648 AD, this magnificent fort houses a beautiful museum within. Spread across approximately 250 acres, this magnificent fort tells the story of the Mughal Empire's intense struggle against the British. Considered a national pride of India, this fort holds a fascinating history.

India's Historical

Located in the capital, Delhi, this magnificent historical masterpiece, a blend of Indian and Mughal architecture, was commissioned by the fifth Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan. This magnificent fort stands on the banks of the Yamuna River in the heart of Delhi, surrounded by the Yamuna River on three sides, and its stunning beauty and charm are a sight to behold.

Included in the World Heritage List, the construction of this world's finest fort was initiated by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1638 AD. The construction of this magnificent Red Fort of India lasted for approximately 10 years, until 1648 AD.

All the buildings built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan have their own historical significance. Just as the Taj Mahal, built by him, has been included among the Seven Wonders of the World due to its beauty and charm, the Red Fort of Delhi has also gained worldwide fame. People have true reverence and respect for this magnificent historical fort.

It should be noted that Shah Jahan wanted to make this fort the most attractive and beautiful of all the forts he built. Therefore, he shifted his capital from Agra to Delhi in 1638 AD and then devoted his entire attention to the construction of this fort, giving it a grand and attractive look.

Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan chose Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, the famous architect of the Mughal period and the designer of the Taj Mahal in Agra, to create the fort's regal design. True to his name, Ustad Ahmad was a master at creating magnificent buildings with his imagination. He also used his wisdom and imagination to create the Red Fort, giving it a truly beautiful and magnificent look. This is why, even after so many years of its construction, the Red Fort is still known worldwide for its grandeur and beauty.

Due to this magnificent fort, India's capital, Delhi, was called Shahjahanabad, and it was considered an example of the creativity of Shah Jahan's reign. After Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, his son, Aurangzeb, also built the Moti Masjid within the fort.

In the 17th century, when Mughal Emperor Jahandar Shah captured the Red Fort, the Red Fort remained without a ruler for nearly 30 years. Nadir Shah then ruled the Red Fort. Subsequently, in the 18th century, the British captured the Red Fort and plundered it extensively. After India's independence, the country's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, hoisted the tricolor flag atop it to convey a message to the nation.

After independence, the Red Fort was used for military training and later became a major tourist destination. Due to its charm and grandeur, it was added to the World Heritage List in 2007, and today, people from all over the world visit Delhi to admire its beauty.

Measurement

The Red Fort is located on the eastern edge of Salimgarh. It derives its name from the red sandstone ramparts and walls that form its four walls. This wall is 1.5 miles (2.5 km) long and stands 60 feet (16 m) high from the river bank and 110 feet (35 m) high from the city side. Measurements reveal that it was planned using a square grid of 82 meters.

The Red Fort was planned thoroughly, and subsequent alterations have not altered its original layout. Several parts were damaged by plunderers and invaders in the 18th century. After the First War of Independence of 1857, the fort served as the headquarters of the British Army. This army destroyed approximately 80% of its pavilions and gardens.[1] A plan to restore these destroyed gardens and the remaining parts was initiated by Umaid Danish in 1903.

The Red Fort displays a high level of art and ornamentation. The artwork here is a synthesis of Persian, European, and Indian art, resulting in the distinctive and unique Shah Jahani style. This style is exquisite in color, expression, and form. The Red Fort is an important building complex in Delhi, which preserves Indian history and its art.
